Asetek Announces First Installation Using InRackCDU Technology
QPACE3 Research Project to be One of the First Intel Knights Landing Installations in Europe
Asetek® (ASETEK.OL) today announced that The University of Regensburg has selected Asetek InRackCDU™ technology to cool one of the first Intel® Xeon Phi™ based HPC clusters in Europe. The Fujitsu® installation is a joint research project (SFB/TRR-55) with The University of Wuppertal and Jülich Supercomputing Center. This installation was first disclosed by Asetek on June 22nd, 2016.
Fujitsu continues to demonstrate growing success in HPC and vision as thought leaders in high density and HPC (High Performance Computing) by utilizing liquid cooling. As a result of utilizing Asetek InRackCDU liquid cooling, the research project led by University of Regensburg will benefit from increased density and energy savings.
“Our first installation using Asetek InRackCDU highlights the flexibility of Asetek technology to address the specific needs of data centers worldwide,” said John Hamill, Vice President of WW Sales and Marketing.
“With Asetek liquid cooling, we are able to provide our customers targeted solutions to their cooling problems,” said Eric Schnepf, Senior Sales Specialist at Fujitsu. “InRackCDU provides the density benefits and energy savings that University of Regensburg requires in a cost effective manner.”
RackCDU D2C is a hot water liquid cooling solutions that capture between 60% and 80% of server heat, reducing data center cooling cost by over 50% and allowing 2.5x-5x increases in data center server density. As deployed by Fujitsu, InRackCDU is mounted in the server rack (along with the servers themselves) and collects the heat from the servers. A key advantage of InRackCDU is that it does not take up any additional aisle space as it is mounted in the top 3U of the rack.
